St. John's Episcopal Church St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church in Wytheville, Virginia, United States. The church was built between 1854 and 1857, and is a Classical Revival style brick church building on a limestone foundation. The front facade features a pedimented portico with a full entablature supported by four monumental Doric order columns of parged brick. Atop the slate roof is an octagonal cupola with arcaded belfry. Attached to the church is a two-story, brick parish hall constructed in 1907, and a large, two-story office wing constructed in 1954.

George Washington and Jefferson National Forests George Washington and Jefferson National Forests

The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are U.S. National Forests that combine to form one of the largest areas of public land in the Eastern United States. They cover 1.8 million acres (7,300 km2) of land in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. George Washington National Forest was established on May 16, 1918 as the Shenandoah National Forest. The forest was renamed after the first President on June 28, 1932. Natural Bridge National Forest was added on July 22, 1933. Jefferson National Forest was formed on April 21, 1936 by combining portions of the Unaka and George Washington National Forests with other land. In 1995, the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests were administratively combined. The border between the two forests roughly follows the James River. The combined forest is administered from its headquarters in Roanoke, Virginia.

Thomas J. Boyd Museum Thomas J. Boyd Museum

The Thomas J. Boyd Museum opened in December 1983. Located beside the Haller-Gibboney Rock House, the Boyd Museum is named for Thomas Jefferson Boyd who is known as the “Father of Wytheville” (he was an attorney, Town mayor, surveyor, hotel builder and Virginia Legislator). The Boyd Museum contains a large collection of artifacts within exhibits on local history, Civil War and the polio epidemic in Wythe County. The Discovery Corner offers ten interactive stations where children can learn math and science, as well as local history.

Wytheville Community College is a two-year college located in Wytheville, Virginia. One of the 23 schools in the Virginia Community College System, the college opened in 1963 as a two-year branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. WCC joined the VCCS when it was formed in 1967. The college serves the citizens of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth (Marion and eastward), and Wythe counties, and the City of Galax.
